Pacific’s Scholar Athletes of the Year
Each spring the University of the Pacific chooses a female and male Scholar Athlete of the Year. The selection is based on grade point average, athletic achievement and community involvement. The 2006-07 winners are seniors Gina Carbonatto, a softball player from Lake Stevens, Wash., and Alan Kelly, a tennis player from Dublin, Ireland.
Distinctively different, but similar in success, Carbonatto and Kelly fulfill the goal that academics and athletics can share a spotlight. Mark Twain wrote, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
